REVIEW: Tri States Wrestling – Jameson, MO (2024)

Tri States Wrestling had an immensely successful outing in St. Joseph, MO back in March, so it was time to see how they would follow that up. This time, it happened to be a charity show for the North Daviess R-III 2025 Class (Jameson, MO), with proceeds going directly to them. The last show like this that I attended was TSW Bulldog Brawl, which turned out to be pretty awesome, and solidified my fandom of this company. Community outreach is one of the things that really sets this company apart from others in the area – they are always looking at ways to use wrestling to help the community and I feel like they are often very successful. I know there are plenty of orphaned puppies and rural graduating classes that are thankful to them, and as a wrestling fan, I am thankful for the great product to enjoy!

There were several pre-announced matches for this show, with the most intriguing being the tag team title match. During his match against “The Realist” Calvin Aldridge, “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt managed to secure a “call your shot” title match contract, allowing him to challenge for any championship of his choosing. In a surprising turn of events, Wyatt announced that he would be challenging for the TSW Tag Team Titles with a mystery partner, later revealed to be Wrex Amadeus, chosen via a random drawing.

Additionally, The Iceman aimed to reclaim his former glory by facing “The Iron Pitbull” Kenny Kingston, while Warren Adams issued an open challenge. Dr. Isin, the TSW Heavyweight Champion, put it all on the line against “The Realist” Calvin Aldridge. TSW management highlighted that Calvin Aldridge was granted this opportunity based on his impressive record in Kansas City Wrestling, although he has struggled to find success in TSW. This match could potentially be Aldridge’s last chance at TSW gold before he is pushed down the ranks!

Without further ado, let’s take a look at what went down at TSW in Jameson!

DISCLAIMER:

I try to go through most, if not all, of the matches and report on what happened and if the match had any significance to any ongoing feuds. You might think some of my opinions are dumb, or the way I review things is dumb, and that’s OK! We can all like different things, that’s what makes something like wrestling so great! I honestly try to stay positive because there is too much negativity in the overall wrestling community (in my opinion) and we can all do better. That isn’t to say I won’t offer opinions or criticisms, but that will apply when warranted. Remember, cut the B.S. and as the old saying goes, “Just enjoy Wrestling!”

My Thoughts:

REVIEW: Tri States Wrestling – Jameson, MO (2024)

The night kicked off with an impromptu match between Tobias Storm and Wrex Amadeus. This came into being because “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt spent the opening minutes of the show insisting that the Tri States Wrestling Tag Team Championship match went on first so he could “leave this terrible town as quickly as possible.” However, one half of Storm Dior (the current champions), Blaire Dior, was running late. As a compromise, it was agreed that Tobias Storm and Wrex Amadeus would have a singles match to warm up the crowd for the main event.

Given the tenuous relationship between Wrex Amadeus and his newly-found mentor “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt, considering the fact that Wrex’s name was literally drawn from a hat for the match, Wyatt appeared somewhat apprehensive as Wrex initially fell victim to a barrage of slams and suplexes from Tobias Storm. After Wyatt provided some coaching from ringside, Wrex mounted a solid comeback and eventually overpowered Tobias, securing the victory. I will say that Wrex, himself, was not up to his typical shenanigans, although Wyatt did take advantage of the referee’s poor line of sight at times. I am stating that, and Wrex wanted me to stress that I am not under duress to say this, that he won fair and square like he does each and every time because he has good sportsmanship.

It was not long before the celebration turned into a post match beat down on Tobias, which Blaire Dior, finally arriving, had to intervene to stop. The question lingered: Would Tobias be in any condition for the main event later in the night? Only time would tell, but competing in two matches in the same night is rarely a good call.

Next up was a triple threat match between Kyle King, “Big” Clay Huna, and “The Aztec Demon from the year 3099” El Diablo. I am, of course, familiar with El Diablo and Clay Huna from my recent forays into Kansas City Xtreme Wrestling, but this was my first-time seeing Kyle King. King is an imposing man with an unorthodox presence to where you can’t really tell what he’s up to. Is he trying to rile up the crowd? Is he actually being very serious? He reminded me a bit of the enigmatic nature of Kansas City legend Derek Stone in his Metro Pro Wrestling days a bit, which was cool.

King faced two incredibly formidable opponents in this match and struggled against their combined might. That isn’t to say that this was a handicap match or anything, but one could tell that the KCXW guys low-key banded together a tad. As I’ve mentioned before, El Diablo is a real loose cannon, never shy to use his own body as a weapon, and that’s precisely what occurred in this match. His daredevil attitude has propelled him to victory in the past, including winning the KCXW Metro Championship, with undoubtedly more accolades to come. Similarly, Clay Huna is no slouch either, boasting a championship pedigree as a former titleholder of the KCXW Season of Excellence Tournament in 2023. With such experienced and accomplished adversaries, King certainly had his work cut out for him.

While Clay Huna battled an impressive ground game, and El Diablo attacked from the air, Kyle King ended up victorious by using the other competitors to his advantage. For example, there were a couple of times that El Diablo went up to the top only to have King pull Huna into the line of fire, with Huna taking all of the damage. With this win under his belt, it will be interesting to see what King does the next time he’s booked in TSW.

Next up was a championship match between “The Realist” Calvin Aldridge and “The Hypothetical Specialist” Dr. Isin that began unexpectedly, evolving from an interview segment with Aldridge and Miss Wendy. Dr. Isin seized the opportunity to turn Aldridge’s dismissive attitude (laying on the top rope and claiming a fast win) into their match right then and there. For Isin, this was his second title defense since winning the belt around Christmas-time the previous year, and he wasted no time unleashing his full aggression.

Isin’s relentless assault included countering Aldridge’s attempts to stall outside the ring with a bone-shattering axe-handle smash from the top rope to the floor, as well as utilizing VIP tables on the outside to his advantage. As the match progressed (and as he started losing more-or-less), Aldridge’s cocky demeanor gradually subsided, and the two men engaged in a brutal exchange of chops and punches, with Isin’s being reminiscent of the classic Dusty Rhodes’s style.

Despite Aldridge’s impressive credentials as a former champion in KCXW and his success in various other promotions, there were moments where it seemed like he wasn’t taking the match seriously. Whiffing on significant moves and arrogantly attempting nonchalant pins only served to make things worse for him, and it was what lead to his undoing. Ultimately, Dr. Isin proved to be too much for Aldridge to handle, putting him in his place and securing a decisive victory.

“The Classic” Warren Adams had been slated to issue an open challenge at this event, but instead, he managed to finagle his way into receiving an honorary Student of the Month award from the governing body at North Daviess R-III School District, where the event was taking place. Adams boldly suggested that he alone was worthy of such a prestigious title, asserting that he was the smartest individual in the area, especially in a town filled with farmers. I think I’ll speak for everyone in the crowd and point out that his smug demeanor made it difficult to endure his speech! I’ve lived in rural areas in the past, and there are some pretty damn intelligent people out there, but I digress.

Backstage, Bert Candy had intended to answer the open challenge, came out anyway, and thus the match transformed into a title challenge for the coveted Student of the Month award! Throughout the match, Warren Adams spent a considerable amount of time removing various articles of clothing, but despite landing some hits, he ultimately fell short due to his improper attire (he was dressed in dress clothes!). Additionally, he underestimated Candy’s immense power and strength. You see a lot of folks do that for some reason, and Candy eventually always crushes them or lariats them to oblivion.

Following the match, Adams accepted his defeat and assumed his rightful place in the “time-out” chair in the corner of the room, while Candy basked in the glory of being crowned Northern Missouri’s best student for the rest of the month!

“The Iron Pitbull” Kenny Kingston is undoubtedly emerging as one of the most promising talents to watch out for in this general Northern/Western Missouri area. He’s been making waves not only in KCXW but also here in TSW. Kingston’s dedication to hard work and training is evident in how much he’s progressed within a relatively short period since I first saw him back in December. His imposing size and strength are perhaps only rivaled by the likes of Bert Candy, making him comparable to an immovable brick wall that opponents would dread facing. With his youth and raw power, it takes a seasoned mat technician, perhaps someone with a championship pedigree and years of experience, to navigate such a formidable challenge. And that’s precisely where The Iceman comes into play.

Hailing from the frozen tundra of Chillicothe, Missouri, The Iceman is poised to reignite his pursuit of the TSW Heavyweight Championship after his defeat to Franco Varga back in the summer of 2023. Despite facing setbacks in both Tri States Wrestling and Trailblazer Championship Wrestling in 2024, he’s determined to turn the tide before the year slips away completely. As I mentioned in my preview, he’s aiming to “right the ship” and get back on track. In the ring, Kenny Kingston showcased his immense strength, overpowering the smaller Iceman with bear-hugs and repeated slams. However, The Iceman managed to find the traction he needed and secured the victory, demonstrating his resilience and determination.

In the main event, the stage was set for a showdown between Wrex Amadeus and “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt against Storm Dior (Tobias Storm and Blaire Dior) for the prestigious TSW Tag Team Championships. With Wyatt’s status as Kansas City wrestling royalty, boasting numerous titles over the years, and Wrex’s prior success as a tag team champion, they formed a formidable team. However, Storm Dior possess a unique ability to draw energy from the crowd, much like Goku harnessing energy for a spirit bomb (That’s right it’s weeb time!), often turning the tide in their favor.

Despite their opponents’ formidable reputation, Storm Dior found themselves at a disadvantage when Wyatt and Amadeus exploited the ring to their advantage. Through strategic maneuvers, they caused Storm Dior to inadvertently collide with each other, clearing the path for a decisive victory. While no outright cheating occurred, it was evident that Wyatt and Amadeus capitalized on the situation to secure the win.

I will stress however that Wrex Amadeus, in particular, did everything above-board, and if I was being coerced into saying this in any way I would let you all know about it. I have even bestowed the following certificate to Wrex to show my appreciation for his achievement:

I can’t wait for the inevitable rematch between these two teams!

Conclusion:

This was a solid show and a surprisingly awesome venue for a smaller wrestling show. There’s always something about the school gym shows that makes them feel “authentic”, and I can’t really place my finger on why. It was a packed house, and TSW posted that it was their largest attendance yet, so kudos to them! The next Tri States Wrestling show will be August 24, 2024 in Mooresville, MO, and I hope to see everyone there!
