An Upcoming Live Professional Wrestling Event

Fountain City Pro is back one more time before the end of the year, and this time they’re bringing a show that promises to be anything but ordinary. If you’re already at the Ball Event Center now saying, “I’m not even supposed to be here today!”, you’re right, because the show is this Friday, October 24, for “I Assure You, We’re Wrestling”, a title that perfectly captures the charm of the slacker comedy classic that inspired it. While this show probably won’t take place on the roof of the Ball Event Center or feature “37! 37 Matches!!”, it’s sure to be just as fun as any other FCP show, which always guarantees a party atmosphere.
If you work a terrible 9-to-5 where you often say, “This job would be great if it wasn’t for the customers,” then start your weekend in style with some live professional wrestling. The event promises a stacked card featuring some of the Midwest’s top independent talent, fresh rivalries, and more – all of which I’ll be going over soon. Join me as we look at the card, and break it down! I really hope they have lasagna at the show, because You know, there’s a million wrestling shows in the world, dude. But they don’t all bring you lasagna.

What I can presume will be the main event for this show is a showdown between two of the area’s biggest stars – both men who routinely carry gold wherever they go. However, one place that “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt has not yet tasted championship gold is Fountain City Pro, where he will be facing none other than “The Grand Regent” Camaro Jackson, who has held the belt for just about a year now. After narrowly defeating Ohio Valley Wrestling U.S. Champion Erik Surge, Wyatt appears to be eyeing Fountain City’s biggest prize, even stating that his potential win “would add legitimacy to the belt”.
This won’t be an easy challenge, though, as Camaro Jackson holds both the age and power advantage over his veteran opponent. Still, Wyatt “knows how to win” in every sense of the phrase, and although his demeanor has softened in recent months, I doubt he’s shy about doing whatever it takes to secure victory. The wild card, without question, remains the status of “All Steel” J. Fowler. After his botched attempt to cash in his guaranteed title shot at the previous show, both Jackson and Wyatt will have to keep their eyes peeled, because one way or another, their reigns could be very short-lived.

Most fans were understandably skeptical about the supposed unified front between Moonshine Mantell and “Black Diamond” Luke Langley – and rightfully so, as their only real connection is their tenuous association with manager Greg Jovi. Jovi tried valiantly to push both men into a tag team situation, but that plan imploded spectacularly at Fountain City Over You, when it looked like Mantell had the match won, Langley attacked him – blindsiding his own partner and walking out. One can only imagine that Moonshine is livid and looking for revenge. The real question now is how in the world Jovi plans to manage both men. Can he actually pull off the herculean task of juggling two massive egos, or will he soon be forced to make a choice—and by default, an enemy?

The St. Louis Anarchy Destination Championship, formerly the Journey Pro Championship, was recently won by none other than “Warhorse” Jake Parnell, who managed to defeat Aaron Williams and end his lengthy reign with the belt. The Kommissar of Nihilism will now be putting that title on the line in a triple threat match against none other than Heidi Howitzer and “All Steel” J. Fowler – two opponents who couldn’t be more different in personality and style. Howitzer previously challenged Williams for the belt last summer but came up short, perhaps being just a little too playful when it would’ve been wiser to stay focused. On the flip side, you can’t get more serious than J. Fowler, though one has to wonder about his divided attention between this title and his Fountain City Reserve guaranteed shot, which is no doubt burning a hole in his pocket. This is Parnell’s championship to lose, and with all bets off, it could realistically go to any of the three competitors if they can keep their heads in the game.

Fans feared the worst for “Death Wish” Anakin Murphy after he posted on social media a few months ago about an injury and possible hiatus, but fans will be pleased to see that he’ll be appearing at I Assure You, We’re Wrestling to take on “The Ultimate Diva” Izzy B. Izzy has been tearing up the FCP Women’s Division but is stepping up for a rare intergender match, which should make for a very interesting showdown. This could be the biggest wild card of the night, as Anakin is willing to put his body through the wringer at any moment, and Izzy is never above stooping to new lows to get the win.

Dylan Scott and Korey Steed make up the tag team Cold WRLD and appear to be coming all the way from Texas to hopefully make a name for themselves in Kansas City. I’m honestly not very familiar with these guys yet, but I’m excited to see what they can do. Fans may recognize that they’ve wrestled for Heartland Championship Wrestling, so they’re not completely unknown in this area. They will be facing Team Double Stuffed – Tobias Storm and “The Realist” Calvin Aldridge – who have been taking Fountain City Pro by storm. They always come in and hype the crowd (although that could just be a sugar rush from the Oreos they hand out) and generally dominate in whatever capacity they’re put in. Recently, Team Double Stuffed won a four-way tag team battle that many assumed would go to The Standard, shocking and exciting the live crowd. This ought to be a solid match!

After their big loss at The Show Goes On, The Standard seems to be having some internal issues. Chance Carigan didn’t seem too pleased with his partner, Illustrious Rey Leon, implying that while Leon is undoubtedly one of the best wrestlers in the region, his head hasn’t been in the game since returning from injury. Considering Leon will be facing “Handsome” Scott Hansen, a man who’s gone toe-to-toe with “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt on two occasions, nearly winning both times, this singles match will be one to watch. What will happen if Rey Leon loses? Could we be nearing the end of The Standard?

Next up is a scramble match featuring “The Aerial Attraction” James Moore, Xac Abstract, and Tommy Davis. Kansas City fans will already be familiar with Xac and James from their stints across various promotions in the area, but Tommy Davis turned heads at The Show Goes On, myself included, and I’m glad to see him back. James Moore is always someone who delivers a hell of a match, and his high-flying offense is second to none. Combined with Abstract’s heavy strikes and Davis’ technical prowess, this match is going to be absolutely wild and could very well steal the entire show.

The final announced match is shaping up to be another wild one – an intergender tag team match between the team of Shooter Shylynn and Ashlyn Alexander (who are still trying to come up with a tag team name) and The Revolution (Anthony Lopes & Quest Parker). The Revolution has been impressive as of late, especially with the high-flying moves they showed in the aforementioned four-way tag team match at The Show Goes On. Even though they didn’t win there, a lot of people are starting to recognize their potential as up-and-comers in the tag division.
Shooter Shylynn and Ashlyn Alexander became a tag team after being attacked by Nixi XS and Izzy B. in a women’s four-way match last summer. They complement each other well and could make waves this October and moving forward. Both women have been tearing up Kansas City, and this match will be a great showcase of their abilities. In a match like this, a win for either team will be awesome, and you know the fans will be thrilled!
