REVIEW: Kansas City Xtreme Wrestling – Xtreme Freedom (2025)

In July 2025, Kansas City Xtreme Wrestling braved the summer heat and once again set up shop at City House in Independence, MO, delivering another electrifying night of professional wrestling. The card was stacked, with all current championships on the line and momentum building toward the finals of the 2025 Season of Xcellence Tournament. KCXW’s new owner, “The 1 Percenter” Richard Goldman, has vowed to “clean up” the company, promising a more orderly main event scene, a rightful women’s champion, and less chaos from the unpredictable figures who’ve made KCXW their playground – such as The Xtremists. By the end of Xtreme Freedom, not all of those promises were likely to be fulfilled, but the blueprint Goldman has laid out is slowly taking shape. The real question is just how heavy-handed he’ll need to be to see it through.

We first saw his wrath when he gave up trying to officiate a number-one contender’s match at the Checkpoint Mayhem taping a few months ago – probably in the hopes that his messy little problem would sort itself out down the line. Neither Hard Luck Hal Rogers nor El Diablo seemed particularly interested in following the rules or respecting authority during that match, and one really has to wonder how out of control this upcoming bout might become. Will he be forced to lay the law down? Keep reading to find out!

DISCLAIMER:

I make it a point to cover most, if not all, of the matches and provide reports on what happened, along with any significance they may have to ongoing feuds. You might think some of my opinions are dumb, or the way I review things is dumb, and that’s OK! Diversity in preferences is what makes wrestling so great. I strive to maintain a positive outlook because there’s already enough negativity in the wrestling community (in my view), and we can all contribute to making it better. However, it doesn’t mean I won’t offer opinions or criticisms when warranted. Let’s cut the B.S. and, as the old saying goes, “Just enjoy Wrestling!”

My Thoughts:

REVIEW: Kansas City Xtreme Wrestling – Xtreme Freedom (2025)

As with any KCXW show I’ve attended post-Covid, there were some preshow matches featuring the company’s up-and-coming young stars. KCXW Xtreme Freedom 2025 was no exception, with two such bouts on the card. First up was the debut of Mike Danski, a rather imposing figure who had the tough task of facing “The Polish Powerhouse” Gerard Jaworski in his first KCXW match. I can’t speak to how long Danski has been wrestling, but he put on a very impressive showing considering how new he is, landing some solid offense thanks largely to his size advantage over Jaworski. That said, Jaworski is one of the most well-conditioned athletes in the company. While he’s smaller than Danski, he carries a clear experience edge and possesses deceptive strength that fans have seen in full force lately – from bending metal rebar to winning matches despite overwhelming numbers.

The match started with some massive body checks from Danski, which seemed to be wearing down Jaworski. Danski managed some standout moments, including dodging The Polish Hammer and nailing a big spinebuster, but Jaworski methodically wore him down with a massive belly-to-back suplex, abdominal stretches, and, ultimately, a second attempt at The Polish Hammer – his devastating finishing maneuver that has felled many KCXW mainstays since he began harnessing his cultural heritage as both a power source and his guiding identity in the ring. What a debut for Danski despite the loss, and an impressive win for Jaworski, who I feel is the odds-on favorite to win The Season of Xcellence Tournament.

Next up was another newcomer for me, Syd Wolfe, taking on none other than “The Hypothetical Specialist” Dr. Isin. The crowd wasted no time making sure Isin didn’t have a smooth night, as a year’s worth of his in-ring transgressions earned him one of the chilliest receptions of the evening. Fans booed him mercilessly before he could even get his doctor’s coat off, calling him a cheater. Isin, clearly not thrilled, insisted he had “never cheated a day in his life” – I’ll let you at home decide the veracity of that claim.

Syd Wolfe, on the other hand, got a warm welcome, perhaps because he comes across as a fun-loving guy who’d rather be surfing than wrestling Dr. Isin. I’m not sure where one would surf around here, but wherever it is, Wolfe seems in tune with it, working in plenty of surfer lingo and basing much of his offense on agility and balance. Isin kept the fight mostly grounded, focusing on wearing Wolfe down with sleeper holds and other submission attempts. Wolfe managed a few bursts of offense, landing stiff knee strikes and even hoisting Isin into a fireman’s carry at one point. But Isin, ever the opportunist, capitalized when it counted, sealing the win with his signature top-rope elbow drop for the 1-2-3 – and that was all she wrote for Mr. Wolfe.

After months of hearing the United Patriots insist that “everything is fine” when it was painfully clear something was very wrong between the two once-proud American men – it’s been hard to watch the team slowly implode. Fans have been powerless to talk sense into either of them, even as it became obvious that The Xtremists were trying to dismantle yet another thing they saw as “too fun” in KCXW, and therefore something that had to be destroyed.

Old Glory has taken the brunt of the blame for the team’s troubles, with Atlas pointing to a few high-profile losses as evidence. One of the biggest moments came when Old Glory appeared to be the aggressor in a chair incident, though in truth it was Jude Vice who started the whole altercation, this led to Jude cheating with a chain when a referee wasn’t looking. This match told a similar story – several times, Old Glory seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, missing Atlas’s tag for reasons that weren’t entirely clear. I found myself wondering right along with Atlas: was this intentional, or just a string of terrible luck?

Once again, Atlas took a brutal beating in the corner, nearly tapping out first to David Cattin and later to Jude in a leg hold. After all that punishment, watching his partner take the pin and lose the match had to sting – and Atlas did not take it well. The air was sucked out of the room when, crossing the point of no return, Atlas Armstrong laid out his former partner with a massive superkick, then followed with an RKO for good measure. The United Patriots are not, in fact, fine. They are done in KCXW.

Next up was the latest test of strength for “The Polish Powerhouse” Gerard Jaworski, as he channeled his mighty ancestors in a Gauntlet Match to prove Polish Power belongs at the top of the KCXW pecking order. The challenge was steep: three of KCXW’s hottest up-and-comers — Harrison Cruz, “The Raging Bull” El Toro, and “The New Age Enigma” Sykawtic – standing in his way, each to be faced one after another.

First up was Harrison Cruz, a monster of a man who easily dwarfed Jaworski. Cruz started by not allowing for the match to officially start, cheap-shotting “The Polish Powerhouse” from the get-go. Cruz landed some big power moves and had “The Polish Powerhouse” on the ropes, but it didn’t take long before he fell victim to the devastating Polish Hammer – a move Jaworski has perfected and used to dominate match after match. El Toro came in next with a completely different strategy, trying to use high-flying offense to catch Jaworski off guard, but he too was stopped cold by another Polish Hammer.

That left Sykawtic, who brought his trademark unpredictability and unorthodox style to the fight. He came out fast, pelting Jaworski with rapid kicks before taking to the air with high-risk maneuvers. But Jaworski caught him mid-flight, planting him with a massive press slam that knocked the wind right out of him. From there it was downhill – Sykawtic absorbed a crushing powerbomb, made a brief comeback attempt, but was quickly grounded and put in a painful back submission. Finally, Jaworski sealed the deal with one more thunderous Polish Hammer, earning the impressive feat of three wins in one night. Now, Jaworski’s sights are firmly set on the Season of Xcellence Tournament, where he already has a guaranteed spot in the finals alongside “Big Cutie” Bert Candy.

Speaking of Bert Candy, this show marked the debut of his very own talk-show segment – The Candy Shop. His first guest was none other than KCXW Kansas City Champion and 2024 Season of Xcellence winner Tobias Storm. The two traded words about their aspirations and plans for future victories, but soon enough it was time for Bert to step into the ring, this time against Talon Graves. He was supposed to face “The Iron Pitbull” Kenny Kingston, but it was announced Kenny was injured and out for a while.

With Bert being at least three times Talon’s size, this was a David-and-Goliath situation from the outset. Bert immediately put Talon on the ropes, delivering a slap that could have knocked the soul out of him, and at one point hauled him up from the floor back into the ring before destroying him with a massive vertical suplex. After some brief back-and-forth, Candy flattened Talon and climbed to the second rope for a crushing splash that seemed to completely wipe him out – a true display of just how dominant “Big Cutie” can be.

The time off has clearly paid dividends, as Missouri is now in the midst of a full-on Candy Rush, and you can bet Bert has no plans of slowing down. Next up is the final match of the Season of Xcellence Tournament as Candy faces off against The Polish Powerhouse, a match guaranteed to blow the roof off the house.

Once again defending a championship that technically was not hers, Lady Pride faced Merci, one of KCXW’s fastest-rising stars. Lady Pride was the only member of The Xtremists who managed to avoid a loss to Merci in a recent tag team match, which makes it likely this bout had roots in some lingering bad blood. That earlier contest saw David Cattin fall victim to Merci’s devastating cartwheel stunner, a move she has used with great success in recent matches.

This was a clear clash of styles. Lady Pride relies heavily on strikes and submission holds, while Merci blends powerhouse offense with surprising gymnastic ability. Early on, Merci impressed the crowd by hitting a headstand headscissors in the corner. She followed with big slams and strong submission attempts, keeping Lady Pride on the defensive. The momentum shifted when Lady Pride grounded Merci and began targeting her legs, knowing that a weakened base would make it difficult for Merci to land her signature finisher.

Despite the damage, Merci managed to connect with the cartwheel stunner and nearly secured the victory, but Lady Pride narrowly avoided defeat by getting her foot on the rope at the last second. Recovering quickly, Lady Pride countered with a brutal Pedigree that put Merci down for the three-count. After the match, Lady Pride attempted to assault her fallen opponent, only to be stopped by Shooter Shylynn. Lady Pride retreated to the back, leaving the KCXW Women’s Championship in the hands of company officials.

The tension between Lady Pride and Merci is far from over, and it is only a matter of time before they meet again, hopefully to settle their rivalry once and for all and to officially crown the first KCXW Women’s Champion in more than a year.

Earlier in the evening, Lord Maximus Canine proudly unveiled his new faction, “The Canine Kingdom,” consisting of himself and his “Squared Circle Squires,” Sir Arthur and Sir Henry. In a ceremonial display, both men were dressed in holy vestments, armed with trumpets, and formally pledged their allegiance as Canine tapped them on the shoulders with his sword. This immediately set up a precarious predicament for “The Big Brudda” Clay Huna, who now found himself essentially facing a three-on-one match.

Throughout the bout, Sir Arthur and Sir Henry lurked at ringside, ready to trip Huna, distract the referee, or blindside him whenever the opportunity arose. Huna fought back and went for his signature move, The Famouser, but the squires interfered once again, ruining his momentum. Capitalizing on the chaos, Canine locked in The Steiner Recliner and scored the submission victory. With that, Lord Maximus Canine became the new KCXW Metro Champion, leading his Canine Kingdom to glory. Pish posh to anyone who says otherwise.

This three-way bout started exactly how you’d expect—with “Hard Luck” Hal Rogers blindsiding Tobias Storm using the KCXW Kansas City Championship belt, trying for a cheap win right out of the gate. Tobias got some payback by catching Rogers in an absurdly long airplane spin, leaving him dizzy and spilling out to the floor. El Diablo seized the moment, lining both opponents up for a double 619 and hitting a flurry of high-flying moves. Rogers recovered, and in a rare moment of unity with Storm, the two hit El Diablo with a 3D.

After a big “tower of doom” spot, Tobias caught fire, and the three began trading each other’s signature moves – Tobias hitting a 619, El Diablo pulling out an Olympic Slam. But when the dust cleared, Rogers and Storm had worn themselves out, giving El Diablo the opening to land a Swanton for the BIG win, becoming the new KCXW Kansas City Champion. The crowd erupted, Tobias even offering congratulations – until The Xtremists stormed the ring, tossing El Diablo through a table and standing tall, robbing the fans of a true feel-good celebration.

REVIEW: Kansas City Xtreme Wrestling – Xtreme Freedom (2025)

Conclusion:

City House has an unorthodox set-up, but it’s a great venue for KCXW – and I’ll never complain about driving just eight miles to see a show there instead of trekking out to Kansas. KCXW Xtreme Freedom was jam-packed with matches and segments, setting the stage for what I assume will be key storylines in the next few shows. Not only will we find out if David Cattin can make short work of El Diablo, but we may finally see a true Women’s Champion crowned when Shylynn faces Lady Pride. Dr. Isin has officially challenged Rad Rico to a dance-off after ruining his invitational dance contest at this event, and the Season of Xcellence Tournament is nearing its climax as Bert Candy meets Gerard Jaworski in the finals. Stay tuned for KCXW Checkpoint: Solar Flare and the other big shows this company has on the horizon including Xcellence in the fall.
