REVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness (2025)

It’s springtime, the time when the weather can’t make up its mind, everyone’s dealing with sinus issues, and in 2025 inflation makes it feel like no one can afford anything. But if there’s one thing wrestling fans can count on, it’s that professional wrestling remains one of the most affordable and entertaining ways to spend a weekend. That’s exactly what I did, filling up the car and heading to the border once again – back to Gardner, Kansas! It was time for Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness! Trailblazer returned with its second show of 2025 and continued its hot streak, breaking another attendance record, pushing forward compelling storylines, and delivering fierce, high-stakes competition. This was all despite a crowded weekend in the area, with TNA Wrestling recently resuming its touring schedule, including two TV tapings in St. Joseph, MO, at the same time! Madness was a stacked card that laid the foundation for big developments later this year – including a huge surprise for fans of women’s wrestling. The night featured dream matches, betrayals, and moments that left the crowd roaring. It felt like everyone went home happy.

DISCLAIMER:

I make it a point to cover most, if not all, of the matches and provide reports on what happened, along with any significance they may have to ongoing feuds. You might think some of my opinions are dumb, or the way I review things is dumb, and that’s OK! Diversity in preferences is what makes wrestling so great. I strive to maintain a positive outlook because there’s already enough negativity in the wrestling community (in my view), and we can all contribute to making it better. However, it doesn’t mean I won’t offer opinions or criticisms when warranted. Let’s cut the B.S. and, as the old saying goes, “Just enjoy Wrestling!”

My Thoughts:

REVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness (2025)

The fact that Trailblazer fans got to witness what I’m calling a “KC Dream Match” between “YOGAMONSTER” Mike Sydal and “2nd 2 None” Kenny Alfonso was nothing short of awesome. I’m especially glad to see Kenny back after a bit of an absence while he wrestles in St. Louis. Kicking off the show with this match and setting the pace for what followed made it even better. Right from the start, there was a real buzz in the crowd, and it didn’t take long for a “This is awesome” chant to break out, along with dueling chants that were split about 50/50. Sydal hit the Yoga Driver surprisingly early after a heated back-and-forth, and honestly, that could have been the end of the match – but Kenny was far too resilient for that.

As the match progressed, it felt like both men were at a stalemate, and Sydal, seemingly frustrated, started to take a few liberties. It was almost out of character for him, as he typically thrives as a crowd favorite. At one point, Kenny, sensing victory, attempted a roll-up and later went for a high-risk move from the top rope. But Sydal sprang up and countered with a brutal kick to the gut, punishing Alfonso for his over-confidence. This led to a massive Yoga Driver from the corner to the center of the ring, sealing the deal with a 1-2-3 for Sydal. Afterward, the two men reluctantly shook hands and embraced, an amazing show of sportsmanship and the perfect way to kick off the event. Considering I was the sponsor for this match, I’d say it lived up to my expectations and then some.

REVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness (2025)

Trailblazer didn’t just have one, but two huge women’s matches at this show, once again proving their commitment to being a top destination for women’s wrestling in the area. First up was fan favorite Skylar Sparks taking on the debuting Izzy B, a competitor who has made waves in CSW, FCP, and WLW and impresses every time she steps into the ring, and thats no matter what the crowd thinks. Izzy B wasted no time, immediately trying to catch Skylar off guard, and for a while, it looked like the early ambush put Sparks on the back foot. Izzy’s long reach and impressive height gave her a natural advantage, as she used her extended limbs to control the pace of the match. She was like a spider spinning a meticulous web of pain on Skylar, and honestly, most women probably would not have been able to escape the momentum.

Skylar, however, had the full support of the Gardner, Kansas crowd, and their energy kept her in the fight. She also noticed that Izzy was spending too much time showboating and arguing with the fans – a crucial mistake. Seizing the opportunity, Skylar struck, rolling up Izzy for the victory! Once again Skylar Sparks went to show why she’s so beloved by the crowd, and why she is very deserving of her status as one of the top female athletes in the area.

REVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness (2025)

Out first for this match was supposed to be none other than The Wranglers, Bobby Joe and Johnnie Jo Black, a duo that always brings a party atmosphere to the crowd and gets everyone dancing right from the get-go. Their opponents, Rocco and Salum, didn’t even let The Wranglers finish their entrance – no dancing, no crowd interaction – just pure chaos. Dekin Cane, furious over what he saw as their their infuriating theme song, “Cotton-Eye Joe,” sent his enforcers to shut it down by any means necessary. The crowd was absolutely robbed of their moment, and everyone was very angry.

From the opening bell, Bobby Joe Black took a relentless beating, as Rocco and Salum dominated with brutal efficiency. Bobby Joe was completely unable to tag out for a solid portion of the match, leaving Johnnie on the outside of the ring apron watching a massacre happen. Dekin’s crew nearly put the match away early, using their size and aggression to overwhelm their opponents. But Bobby Joe fought desperately and finally crawled to his corner, tagging in Johnnie Jo Black – who exploded into the ring with a flurry of offense, taking on both monstrous opponents at once. This is usually not the place we normally see Johnnie Jo at this point in the match, and honestly it was quite refreshing to see him get his licks in.

Just when it looked like Rocco the Barbarian had things under control, his bickering with Salum and Dekin distracted him at the worst possible moment. Johnnie Jo Black seized the opening, rolling up Rocco for the shocking victory! Wins like this don’t come often for Johnnie, but one thing was clear—Dekin Cane was NOT happy about how it all went down.

REVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness (2025)

Kit Sackett hasn’t been back in Trailblazer Championship Wrestling for long, but fans are already buzzing about what he brings to the roster. With his powerful frame and long reach, he’s especially dangerous when he traps opponents in the corner, and Scott Hansen seemed to know it. From the outset, “Handsome” Scott Hansen used his deceptive strength and ring awareness to keep Sackett either grounded or tied up in the corner. Hansen controlled the match for a good stretch, but a missed top-rope move gave Sackett the opening he needed. Wasting no time, Sackett capitalized with a massive Death Valley Driver, sealing the win.

Both of these guys are poised to become major players in Trailblazer Championship Wrestling in 2025, but I’m especially excited to see what “Handsome” Scott Hansen brings to the table. This was actually Hansen’s Trailblazer debut, and he came in hot, following a stellar year that’s firmly established him as one of the fastest-rising stars in the region. Hansen has come a long way in a short amount of time, recently proving his worth in a knockdown, drag-out match against Jeremy Wyatt, as well as during a solid run in Mid-States Wrestling. If this match was any indication, Trailblazer fans are in for something special. I can’t wait to see what Scott Hansen and Kit Sackett do next.

REVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness (2025)

Van “Bam” Winkle hadn’t competed in a sanctioned Trailblazer match for over a year, instead spending his time feuding with Trailblazer commentary member Marcus after feeling slighted when Marcus stepped in to protect Miss Wendy from his advances. For some reason, Van decided his latest target would be a young Trailblazer security member named Jeff, mocking his dream of breaking into the business. Once the match started, Van wasted no time stooping to every low imaginable, attacking Jeff mercilessly. But when Jeff started landing some shots of his own, Van quickly shut it down with a gut punch, a big slam, and an easy pinfall victory. Not content with just the win, Van continued his assault post-match, berating Jeff over the loudspeaker – until Marcus finally had enough.

Just when it seemed like Van might not back down, Mike Sydal and Kit Sackett came out to stand by Marcus, seemingly to even the odds. But in a shocking turn, Sackett, once beloved by the crowd, grabbed Marcus and attempted a Death Valley Driver! Luckily, Marcus countered with a perfectly timed RKO, proving that he had come prepared for any trick Van might pull. If fans recall, Van “Bam” Winkle and Kit Sackett had previously teamed up in 2023 at Bunkhouse Brawl and even helped each other during the brawl itself. Many assumed it was a temporary alliance born out of necessity, but it seems we were all duped. Who knows what these two have planned next?! One thing’s for sure: Marcus, and now Jeff, have every reason to seek revenge, and the crowd is absolutely behind them.

REVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness (2025)

Trailblazer fans have been eagerly awaiting the debut of “Must CTV” Colton Theron Vaught, and at long last, everything aligned to bring him into the Trailblazer arena. His first opponent? Miracle Mike James, who was expected to be accompanied by Dekin Cane, but given recent tensions between the two, that was far from certain. For weeks, cracks have been forming in the relationship between James and Cane, stemming from a string of bad calls by Dekin that nearly cost James a match. On top of that, James has grown increasingly frustrated with Cane’s lack of urgency in backing him up when it matters most. That tension boiled over when James made his entrance – outright telling Dekin to go away. The crowd was stunned, but given recent events, the writing had been on the wall.

Despite the drama, James had his hands full from the start. Vaught’s unique blend of professional wrestling and MMA techniques immediately electrified the crowd, as Trailblazer doesn’t currently have anyone with a similar style. Fans erupted into chants of “CTV! CTV! CTV!” as Vaught unleashed a relentless Muay Thai-inspired assault on James. Then, Dekin Cane re-emerged. Likely seeing James in trouble, he rushed down to ringside, seemingly on the verge of another botched interference. James, clearly irritated, looked ready to explode at Cane, but this time, Dekin got it right. From my vantage point, it appeared he discreetly tossed what looked like a small wrench into the ring. Whatever it was, it found its mark, smashing into CTV’s face.

Momentarily blinded, Vaught was easy prey. James capitalized instantly, delivering a vicious discus lariat and securing the pinfall victory. Where does this leave the James-Cane partnership? That remains to be seen, but for now, it seems like Dekin has, at least temporarily, proved his worth.

REVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness (2025)

After her huge victory over Nixi XS at Revenge, it was a tough break for “The Outlaw” Sadie Belle to find herself up against Trailblazer’s most dominant women’s competitor two years running – “The Phoenix Princess” Aminah Belmont. Belmont made an entrance draped in full Canadian regalia, likely making a statement about the ongoing political tensions between the U.S. and Canada, which is her home country. She even went so far as to declare herself “Bret Hart’s favorite wrestler” – along with a few other questionable accolades that, let’s be honest, were probably not entirely true.

Once the bell rang, Aminah wasted no time unleashing hell on Sadie, her strikes landing with pinpoint precision. Kicks rained down on Belle throughout the match, but the most devastating was a gigantic top-rope axe kick that looked like it damn near knocked Sadie’s soul out of her body. Sadie fought valiantly, but after that brutal strike, she could never quite recover. Though Belle managed to block an attempted Sharpshooter, Aminah quickly adjusted, hitting a Styles Clash before locking in a second Sharpshooter – this time securing the submission victory.

But Belmont wasn’t done. Grabbing a mic, she confidently declared that nobody in Trailblazer was even close to her level and suggested that there wasn’t much left for her to accomplish in the company. Then, suddenly, the familiar opening riffs of The Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” blasted through the arena. The crowd erupted as Skylar Sparks made her way to the ring. Sparks wasted no time calling out Belmont, reminding her that she had never beaten her in singles competition. And if Aminah truly thought there was nobody left to challenge her, Skylar was more than happy to prove her wrong. Security had to keep these two women pulled apart as it almost seemed like we would see the altercation right there.

Then came the real bombshell – Trailblazer management rushed out and handed Miss Wendy a note – she read it aloud stating that Trailblazer was officially announcing that Aminah Belmont vs. Skylar Sparks will take place at Trailblazer RISE on May 24th … and it won’t just be any match. They’ll be fighting for the brand-new Trailblazer Women’s Championship.

REVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness (2025)

For his second Trailblazer Heavyweight Championship title defense, “Astonishing” Austin Mulitalo faced Luke Anthony in what was guaranteed to be an intensely athletic contest. Right out of the gate, Mulitalo wasted no time going for the lowest of low-hanging fruit, mocking Anthony’s newly cropped hairstyle, likening him to the classic toy-line Mr. Potato Head. This is what Mulitalo excels at, getting under his opponent’s skin, forcing them into frustration, and then capitalizing when their focus slips. These two were incredibly evenly matched, which makes sense considering their backgrounds. Both started around the same time, both trained at the Harley Race Wrestling Academy, and they know each other inside and out.

At one point, Mulitalo delivered a brutal Bucklebomb that looked like it might seal the deal, but Anthony powered through. Luke nearly secured the win himself after an impressive Slingblade followed by a spear, but Mulitalo’s ring awareness saved him – he managed to get a hand on the ropes just before the three-count. Sensing the tide turning against him, Austin did exactly what we all expected him to do – he cheated. In a moment of classic Mulitalo opportunism, he shoved Anthony into the referee and, in the ensuing confusion, delivered a low blow. That was all she wrote.

But Austin wasn’t done.

Even after securing the victory, he continued his assault on Luke, refusing to let up. Trailblazer management had seen enough. They stepped in and announced that Mulitalo had been suspended indefinitely. The crowd erupted into a chorus of “Na Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye,” celebrating his apparent departure. But in true Mulitalo fashion, he wasn’t about to let that be the end of it. Moments later, he snuck back into the ring and reignited the attack, catching everyone off guard. It took backstage personnel rushing in to finally chase him off, leaving a chaotic scene in his wake. Looks like we probably won’t have a Heavyweight Championship match in May, but that gives Trailblazer management that much mire time to secure somebody to hopefully end this reign of terror.

Conclusion:

Well, well, well—looks like May is once again going to be a game-changer for Trailblazer Championship Wrestling, as the company ushers in a bold new era with the debut of their brand-new Trailblazer Women’s Championship. It’s been a long time coming, but Trailblazer has always been strategic about when to introduce titles – and 2025 feels like the perfect time to spotlight the incredible women’s division they’ve been steadily building. Madness was one hell of a show, and the crowd was buzzing from start to finish. You can feel that something big is brewing in Trailblazer right now. May can’t come soon enough, and I’m beyond curious to see what else they’ve got up their sleeve.
