PREVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness (3-29-25)

Hot off a record-breaking show this past February, Trailblazer Championship Wrestling is set to make waves once again as Madness descends on Gardner, Kansas, on March 29th. Returning to the Trailblazer Arena at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, the company is primed to showcase why the buzz surrounding them keeps growing – and why they’re solidifying their place as one of the premier wrestling promotions in the region. When it comes to long-term storytelling and character-building, Trailblazer is second to none, blending old-school wrestling fundamentals with today’s modern stars. That’s what makes the Kansas City wrestling scene in the 2020s so exciting – there’s something for everyone, with nearly every wrestling style (aside from deathmatches, perhaps) thriving in the area. As a longtime fan of WLW and the way Harley Race used to run a show, I’ve been hooked on Trailblazer since my very first event and have loved their approach ever since.

Revenge set the stage for a huge 2025, with major developments like the continued dominance of Astonishing Austin Mulitalo, growing tensions within Dekin Cane’s inner circle, and Trailblazer’s unwavering commitment to community engagement – something they’ve always excelled at. Join me as we break down all the announced matches and take a closer look at the ongoing feuds and what might be in store for the future. Don’t forget to leave a comment here or on social media to let us know which match you’re most excited to see!

PREVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Madness (3-29-25)

It’s not often that we get something resembling a Kansas City dream match in 2025, but I’d argue this generational clash between one of the area’s best wrestlers of the 2010s and one of the best of the 2020s is about as close as it gets. For those unfamiliar, “2nd to None” Kenny Alfonso was a cornerstone of CSW from 2022 to 2024, as well as a standout in Fountain City Pro, so seeing him now appear in Trailblazer is exciting. He’s nothing short of a human highlight reel, and in all the matches I’ve seen, I can’t recall a single bad one.

Standing across from him will be a man voted PWI Rookie of the Year in 2009, a wrestler who dominated Metro Pro Wrestling and World League Wrestling for years, and, honestly, one of the main reasons I even took a chance on attending my first Trailblazer show back in early 2023. I figured if they booked The YOGAMONSTER Mike Sydal, it was something I had to see. To this day, Sydal still pops up in AEW, Dragon Gate, and ROH, continuing to impress every time he steps in the ring. This match has all the potential to steal the show purely on a technical level, given the athleticism both men bring to the table. I can’t stress enough how much of a must-watch this is. In fact, I believe in this match so much that I’ve put my name on the line – I’ve personally sponsored it!

Next up is one of two huge women’s wrestling matches featured on the Madness card -something Trailblazer Championship Wrestling not only takes pride in but has consistently excelled at. This is the same company that delivered an all-women’s main event for their November 2024 show, proving their commitment to spotlighting top-tier women’s wrestling. This time, fans will be treated to the return of a beloved fan favorite, Skylar Sparks, a staple of the St. Louis wrestling scene and a standout in Harley Race’s World League Wrestling over in Troy, Missouri. She’ll be squaring off against the debuting Izzy B, who has competed for Central States Wrestling, World League Wrestling, and Fountain City Pro but is now looking to carve out her own legacy in Gardner, Kansas, in front of what will likely be a fresh audience.

While Skylar is widely adored, Izzy has a reputation for rubbing some locker rooms the wrong way and occasionally taking out her frustrations on the fans. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of attitude she brings to the ring – because when Izzy wants to play dirty, she’s more than capable of stirring up some serious shenanigans.

Just when fans thought they’d get a reprieve from Van “Bam” Winkle at his absolute worst – his annual Valentine’s Day meltdown and inevitable humiliation – he’s vowed to return at Madness with an even bigger chip on his shoulder than anyone could imagine. For the past year, Van has been locked in a war of attrition against Trailblazer personality Marcus, all stemming from an embarrassing beatdown and a tournament loss, both of which can be traced back to his decision to hit on Miss Wendy in a manner far from the gentlemanly persona he pretends to uphold. Since then, he’s resurfaced time and time again, like a stubborn in-grown toenail, constantly looking to undermine Marcus and ruin his night, yet somehow, always coming up short.

But when Van viciously attacked Marcus at Revenge, he made one thing very clear: “This isn’t over.” Those foreboding words should be taken seriously, because if one thing is obvious, it’s that Van, in his rage-fueled tunnel vision, isn’t here to make money in Trailblazer Championship Wrestling. He’s here for one thing – to end Marcus’s involvement with the company – and he’ll stop at nothing to make that happen.

“Must CTV” Colton Theron Vaught is easily one of the most impressive athletes in the Missouri/Kansas/Arkansas region. Splitting his time between professional wrestling and mixed martial arts, he consistently wows audiences at every show I’ve seen him at. I remember watching him and Moses the Deliverer work as a tag team in World League Wrestling years ago and knew right then that he was destined for something big – and I was absolutely right. Now, Must CTV is set to make his Trailblazer debut against none other than Miracle Mike James, the free-spirited agent of chaos who refuses to be pinned down. James has always had a bit of a scummy, underhanded edge, but every so often, you can tell he enjoys the rare moments when the fans actually appreciate his work. He’s managed by the nefarious Dekin Cane and often runs with Salum Gust and Rocco the Barbarian, but he’s always seemed like an outlier in their group – a man on the periphery rather than a fully committed member.

I even interviewed James last year about his ties to Cane and company, and he outright refused to discuss their alliance. That divide only deepened at Revenge, where tensions hit a boiling point – James could be heard mocking Cane for not having his back in previous matches, and Cane nearly cost him a major tag team victory. So the question remains: Will Miracle Mike James welcome Dekin’s help against Vaught this time around, or will he once again roll down the Miracle Mile as a lone wolf?

This match is a long-awaited rematch from Taking Over, where the short-lived winning streak of The Wranglers, the beloved duo from Turner, Kansas, Bobby Joe and Johnnie Jo Black, came to a screeching halt. That night, Rocco the Barbarian and Salum Gust joined forces to climb the ranks of Trailblazer’s tag team division, and with a little outside help, they succeeded. Last time, the match was decided by interference from Dekin Cane (of course). A well-timed grab of Bobby Joe Black’s boot threw off a high-risk maneuver, opening the door for Rocco to deliver a devastating boot to Bobby’s face, sealing the pinfall victory.

Now, with their history, especially the ongoing blood feud between Bobby Joe Black and Salum Gust dating back to 2023m there’s no doubt The Black Brothers will be out for revenge. The big question is: Can they devise a plan to neutralize Dekin Cane long enough to tip the scales in their favor, or will The Midwest Mouth once again prove why he’s one of the most dangerous and successful managers in Kansas wrestling today?

Outlaw Sadie Belle did the near-unthinkable in her Trailblazer debut, scoring a victory over Nixi XS. But this time around, she could be facing a worst-case scenario as she steps into the ring against The Phoenix Princess Aminah Belmont – the most dominant female athlete in the company for two years running. Ever since striking out on her own, Belmont has been a true force to be reckoned with, and she’s not above using whatever it takes to secure a win – whether it’s nunchucks, steel chairs, or even what I can only assume was baby powder.

While Sadie Belle may be a rough-and-tumble, down-home brawler who loves a good fight and a night out, country street smarts won’t mean much against an opponent willing to practically commit crimes to win. This one is bound to get wild, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.

Originally, this match was set to feature Sackett taking on The Iceman, but due to a last-minute scheduling change, it will now mark the Trailblazer debut of one of the hottest, and, I suppose, handsomest, up-and-coming talents in the area: “Handsome” Scott Hansen. Hansen has come a long way in a short time, recently proving himself in a hell of a match against none other than Jeremy Wyatt. This bout presents a prime opportunity for him to showcase his skills in front of a brand-new crowd and make his mark. However, standing in his way is the recently returned Kit Sackett, whose long reach and devastating strikes make him a dangerous opponent. Sackett is still chasing his first win in Trailblazer, and you can bet he’s not about to step aside and let the new blood take his place without a fight. Hansen better watch out—Sackett is back, hungry, and ready to prove he belongs.

After months of being accused of dodging “The Suplex Cyclone” Curt Gannon, Austin Mulitalo got the last laugh at Revenge when Gannon was sidelined by a training injury, thus allowing Austin to become the most insufferable man in Gardner, Kansas. Thankfully, Mike Sydal attempted to put an end to his hubris once and for all, but unfortunately fell to the self-proclaimed “Suplex Hurricane” and his new move, the Severn Choke – which, of course, he totally didn’t steal from anyone else in any way whatsoever. Now stepping up to the plate is Luke Anthony, a man of pure grit and determination and arguably one of the best athletes in wrestling today. Anthony doesn’t need a flashy entrance or a cutesy nickname – he’s simply here to push Austin to his absolute limit and, hopefully, take Big Blue home with him on Saturday night.

Anthony is one of those guys who can take a beating and still get the job done – case in point, his match with Miracle Mike James. On paper, defeating a former deathmatch wrestler in a hardcore match seemed unlikely, yet there Anthony stood, kendo stick in hand, towering over James’ crumpled body, proving just how tough he really is. Of course, Austin isn’t just going to sit back and take the loss. Expect some shady tactics – because if history has taught us anything, it’s that when Austin’s in the ring, we’d all better prepare for the worst.
