PREVIEW: Tri States Wrestling – St. Joe Show Down – Saturday 1/18/25

Tri States Wrestling is back and ready to unleash their 2025 schedule on the world! Covering much of the northwestern part of Missouri and featuring talent from Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas, Tri States Wrestling is a promotion I’ll always make an effort to attend when I can. Despite the bad weather we’ve had recently, I’m braving the potential ice to make the drive up to St. Joseph, Missouri, to enjoy a night at the wonderful Time Out Entertainment venue. It’s been a while since I was last there – I missed their previous St. Joseph show because I was busy getting married – but I’m thrilled to see what Saturday has in store!

This show feels like a season premiere, kicking off everything with a fresh slate now that the ongoing feuds from 2024 have been decisively settled. The Iceman made a statement by decimating Dr. Isin in a brutal street fight, earning his first-ever now-unified TSW Heavyweight Championship and breaking free from a year-long slump. However, shadows loom from every angle, all vying for the prestigious title. Chief among them is the ominous “Outlaw King” Bennett James, the newly crowned King of Missouri, whose presence alone sets a foreboding tone for what’s to come. In this article, we’ll dive into some of the announced matches and analyze how they fit into the larger picture that is Tri States Wrestling.

The Outlaw King will be there!

The Outlaw King of Missouri, Bennett James, has already confirmed he’ll be making his presence felt at this show, but fans are left wondering—in what capacity? By claiming the title of King of Missouri, James now wields significant influence over match stipulations throughout 2025. However, this new status does not grant him an immediate title shot. After reviewing the footage of his controversial actions during TSW: King of Missouri, officials have ruled that James will not receive a title opportunity until later in 2025—and only if he maintains an undefeated record in all his scheduled matches leading up to it. This stipulation ensures that every opponent standing across the ring from James faces an unparalleled threat. The Outlaw King of Missouri is determined to prove his dominance and will undoubtedly stop at nothing to achieve his goal of becoming TSW Heavyweight Champion. Whoever dares to step into the ring with him better be prepared, as James is willing to bend the rules and do whatever it takes to secure victory.

The Iceman VS Atlas Armstrong

The Iceman, reigning TSW Heavyweight Champion, will headline this already stacked card by defending his title against an opponent of his own choosing. This rare opportunity arose due to the aforementioned sanctions placed on The Outlaw King of Missouri Bennett James, who was disqualified from an immediate title shot following his use of brass knuckles in two separate matches during the King of Missouri Tournament. For his challenger, The Iceman has selected none other than “The Natural” Atlas Armstrong. However, this match carries more tension than excitement, as Armstrong’s recent shift in demeanor has raised eyebrows. The once-admired fan-favorite competitor seems to have grown bitter, blaming The Iceman’s close ties to TSW management for the champion’s frequent title opportunities. Armstrong has openly lamented that he could have won the Mooresville Gauntlet match to secure the number-one contendership if The Iceman hadn’t “taken advantage of him when he was tired.”

This sudden change in Armstrong’s attitude is unexpected, leaving fans shocked and some disappointed. Meanwhile, The Iceman appears unshaken by the accusations. With his characteristic (perhaps icy) calm and confidence, he is determined not only to defend his championship but also to prove his integrity in the face of Armstrong’s claims. This clash promises to be more than just a title match—it’s a battle of pride. This is a main event no one will want to miss!

Wrex vs “The Copperhead” Duke Cornell / Jeremy Wyatt vs “The Realist” Calvin Aldridge

The TSW Tag Team Champions, “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt and “Sexy” Wrex Amadeus, will be competing in separate singles matches at this event due to an unfortunate shakeup in the tag team scene. The rightful number-one contenders, Tobias Storm and “The Realist” Calvin Aldridge, collectively known as The Realest Storm, were unable to make their scheduled championship match. Tobias Storm is sidelined with an ankle injury, allegedly inflicted by Wrex Amadeus over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Despite this setback, Calvin Aldridge will be present, and you can bet he’s fuming over the situation. Not only has he lost out on a golden opportunity for the TSW Tag Team Championships, but the chaos also reeks of an elaborate setup—likely orchestrated by Wyatt. Aldridge has a chance to channel that frustration into his singles match against Jeremy Wyatt. Fans might recognize this as a rematch of their March encounter in St. Joseph, where Wyatt was met with deafening boos from the crowd. That night’s reaction was so intense it reportedly blew out the PA system when Miss Wendy tried to talk over it! With St. Joseph’s disdain for Wyatt still alive and well, the energy for this rematch is bound to electrify the venue.

Meanwhile, Wrex Amadeus will take on “The Copperhead” Duke Cornell. Duke is a wrestler I’ve only seen in online clips, making this an exciting chance to witness his talents live. Cornell’s rugged, no-nonsense style will clash beautifully with Wrex’s slick and somewhat underhanded approach. While I won’t accuse Wrex of outright cheating, it’s no secret that Jeremy Wyatt’s constant presence often tips the scales in his favor. This dynamic adds an intriguing layer to the match, and it’ll be fascinating to see how Cornell handles the possible two-on-one threat.
