An Upcoming live Professional Wrestling Event

There are numerous wrestling shows happening in the area, many of them at the exact same time, which puts me in a tough spot. Choosing which one to attend often feels like picking a favorite child—or deciding who lives and who dies. No matter what, it’s a hard decision that stings either way. Ultimately, I went with Trailblazer Championship Wrestling, perhaps Kansas City’s best-kept secret in professional wrestling. It’s been a while since Trailblazer ran a show, and I’m itching to get back to the Trailblazer Arena!
This is one of the company’s signature shows each year, and it always draws a big crowd, with fans decked out in colorful costumes and ready for a great time. Not only will there be eight huge matches, but there’s also a costume contest for both kids and adults in the audience!

If you missed out last time, my 2023 Yearbook will be back on sale at this very show, so be sure to check one out! The 2023 Trailblazer Yearbook is a full-color, professionally printed magazine containing a full roster for last year, win/loss records, info on top feuds, and gorgeous color photos provided, with permission, by Jamie Brown Studios.

“The Unnatural Disaster”Salum Gust spent most of 2023 locked in a fierce rivalry with The Wranglers, and particularly Bobby Joe Black. Although the two men traded victories, Bobby Joe ultimately came out on top, leaving Salum broken and fading from the scene for nearly a year. Gust resurfaced at Trailblazer Gold Rush, once again aiding his mentor, “Madman” Max Sterling, seemingly having learned little from his past mistakes. I’ve seen Gust wrestle in other areas since then, and he is an absolute powerhouse – in fact, I think he is scarier now than he was in 2023. Whatever he has been doing in his absence was undoubtedly unsavory, and I hope we never find out how he was training. Despite his size (which is not small), he has the strength of someone twice as large, effortlessly tossing opponents around like ragdolls.
That’s why I’m concerned for “Director’s Cut” Dutch McClane, as I fear he may not realize what he’s in for when he steps into the Trailblazer ring against Gust. McClane has made a name for himself in Central Kansas, wrestling for Heartland Championship Wrestling and XWE in recent months. He has the athletic ability and drive to make a name for himself in the Kansas City area, and if he can get this win it will be big. I am very excited to see how this one turns out.

“The Suplex Cyclone” Curt Gannon came within a hair’s breadth of becoming the inaugural Trailblazer Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Champion, only to lose the match due to despicable cheating by the treacherous “Astonishing” Austin Mulitalo and his new manager, SBC. To make matters worse, Gannon was already nursing an injury from a vicious, unsportsmanlike attack by “Madman” Max Sterling and his protégé, “The Unnatural Disaster” Salum Gust. Many believe Gannon is owed a rematch, but with Mulitalo apparently not appearing at Monster’s Brawl 3, the question remains: who will Gannon face?

The answer came with the announcement that St. Louis’s own Marcus “BIG MUNCH” Muncherson is heading to Kansas City. Judging by the intensity and passion in his promo, Gannon better be prepared – Munch isn’t just coming for a paycheck. He’s determined to win and, as he put it, “beat the dog$#@! out of each other!” As the saying goes, there are a million ways to eat out here, but nobody eats with Big Munch. Now, let him cook!

Oh man! This match is sure to blow the roof off the Trailblazer Arena. The last time “The Grand Regent” Camaro Jackson stepped into a Trailblazer ring, he received a hero’s welcome and humbled the cocky “T2G” Tommy 2 Good. Now, with a chill in the air and the chance to inch closer to championship gold, Jackson is back to show what modern wrestling royalty looks like. However, “Madman” Max Sterling is no ordinary opponent, and this will likely be one of Jackson’s toughest battles yet. You can’t just prepare for a standard match with Sterling. On his “good days,” he’s often armed with weapons and has a lackey or two lurking to help him…..well, “secure” his win.

If we see the same Camaro Jackson who’s been dominating St. Louis for years—collecting championship belts and making everyone take notice—this weekend could be the moment where he truly cements his place in the company.

Up next is a match between “YOGAMONSTER” Mike Sydal and rising star “The Jet” Benjamin Trust. Sydal has been showing up everywhere recently, even making occasional appearances on TV tapings for Ring of Honor and All Elite Wrestling, but I think we can all agree his home is Trailblazer and the Trailblazer fans love him. This seems to be his first time facing Trust, so the outcome is unpredictable. On one hand, Sydal is one of the most skilled and respected modern legends in Kansas City wrestling. On the other hand, Trust is a young, hungry up-and-comer eager to make a name for himself in Kansas City. I’m sure he will stop at nothing to realize this goal. While Trust usually competes in the St. Louis/Illinois area, this may be his first time wrestling in this region. Sydal had nothing bad to say about his opponent Benjamin Trust, although he made it clear that he felt his experience edge was going to be an issue for Trust.

“The Jet”, on the other hand, also shared his thoughts about the match, stating his feelings about Mike being nothing more than “just one of those Zen Hippy Chakra Dweebs” with a “manbun”. He seemed pretty confident that he could easily get the win over Sydal, which is going to be a massive uphill battle. I have to question “The Jet’s” seriousness a bit considering being that dismissive about such a decorated opponent rarely ends up being a good idea.

Either way, I’m excited to see this match as it will be a first for me in regard to seeing “The Jet” Benjamin Trust wrestling live. Let’s hope he brings his A-game, and this could be quite an amazing match!

This should be an interesting match-up. On one hand, you have the returning Robin Steele, who previously teamed with Miracle Mike James and nearly took Iowa’s top duo, Jared Thumb and “Rapid Delivery” Rory Fox, out of commission. Now he’s back, likely ready to cause more chaos – but there’s a catch. He’s facing Luke Anthony, pound for pound one of the best athletes in wrestling today and one of the final four combatants in this year’s Trailblazer Championship Tournament. If Robin is up to his dirty tricks, this might not be as clear cut as it seems, and Mr. Anthony better keep his head on a swivel throughout this match.

One thing Trailblazer Championship Wrestling consistently delivers on is the high quality of their women’s matches. This time, fans are in for a treat with a massive showdown between the returning Skylar Sparks and a huge return to the Kansas City area – a rare appearance by Camron Bra’nae, formerly known as NXT’s Amari Miller! Skylar is no stranger to Trailblazer fans, having gained recognition as one of the top referees in the company throughout 2023 before transitioning into being a competitor. With the heart of a lion, Skylar never gives up, making her a bonafide fan favorite wherever she goes.

In a promo posted by Trailblazer’s social media, Skylar discusses always seeming to cross paths with Camron Bra’nae and her need to prove herself and get that first win in Trailblazer. It’s going to be quite the uphill battle, and if anyone call pull off a big upset, Skylar Sparks can.

Here we have it—the main event of the evening, and what a showdown it promises to be! “Rapid Delivery” Rory Fox has had an incredible year, no matter the incarnation, and he’s surely looking to continue that momentum this weekend. His opponent, however, is more of a wildcard: Rocco the Barbarian, alongside his manager, Dekin Cane. In the lead-up to the inaugural Trailblazer Championship Wrestling title tournament, Rocco was on a tear, demolishing most of the roster and stacking opponents like piles of lumber. Unfortunately, he couldn’t secure a big win in the tournament and seemed to lose his way, disappearing for months back into the woods where Dekin originally found him. Now that they’ve reunited, one has to wonder where they stand with each other and whether their once ironclad dynamic has changed. This match will surely do one of two things – affirm Rocco’s place on the top of the Trailblazer roster or put him at a crossroads and back to the dark place he was at earlier in the year. It’s going to be great to see Rory back, and we shall see what happens!
