REVIEW: Game Changer Wrestling – Say You Will (2022)

Continuing my possibly futile attempt to “catch up” on my backlog of various GCW shows, seeing that I am quite a few behind, means I watched Most Notorious earlier today, and now it’s time for GCW – Say You Will. Two down and five to go! It turns out that when you become obsessed with “doom scrolling” about the war in Ukraine, not a whole lot gets done on any sort of website you do in your spare time. It’s bad for your mental health, and don’t do what I did and keep doing it.

Be prepared for a lot of wrestling reviews this week, as I plow through my backlog bit by bit. While Most Notorious was in Detroit, Michigan, this show hails all the way from Chicago, Illinois. Out of the two, this show has the better card, at least on paper, so I’d recommend this for wrestling, and the other for it’s guest appearances. Without further ado, let’s see what happened!

REVIEW: Game Changer Wrestling – Say You Will (2022)

For anyone wanting to watch this, I would recommend Fite.TV. you can get some FITE credits (10 dollars I believe) with the following code: “6m6lyyn”. I’m sure there are other ways to watch it, but FITE has a solid interface and has been worth it so far.

The Card:

  • 6-Way Scramble: Gringo Loco defeated Nick Wayne, Alex Zayne, Ninja Mack, Dark Sheik, & Dante Leon
  • Tony Deppen defeated “Speedball” Mike Bailey
  • Blake Christian defeated Bandido
  • Ring of Honor World Championship: Jonathan Gresham (c) defeated 2 Cold Scorpio
  • GCW Extreme Championship: AJ Gray defeated PCO (c) – TITLE CHANGE
  • Ricky Morton defeated Matt Cardona (w/ Chelsea Green)
  • Allie Katch defeated Kylie Rae
  • GCW Tag Team Championships: The Briscoe Brothers (c) defeated The Rejects (John Wayne Murdoch & Reed Bentley)
  • Markus Crane Tribute Deathmatch: Jimmy Lloyd defeated Alex Colon & “Spyder” Nate Webb

My Thoughts:

As I’ve stated before, my methodology for this is to avoid giving arbitrary star ratings or anything resembling the typical ratings people give in wrestling reviews. I stopped awarding “grades” to things long ago, after my gig at a videogame site slid into them manipulating scores. I usually go through the show and pull a half-dozen or so things that I thought were significant or that I liked. You might think some of my choices are dumb and that’s okay – we all like different things!

Nick Wayne is Crazy Good:

Considering his age, Nick Wayne is every bit of the second coming of Jack Evans in most of his matches. The guy just signed a contract with AEW in some compacity, it will be interesting to see what he does when they get him in the door. From what I understand, he has some sort of contract where he has to finish high school and turn 18, then the sky’s the limit. Many do not realize that Wayne is a third generation wrestler. He is the grandson of “Moondog” Ed Moretti, and son of the late Buddy Wayne, training in his wrestling school before he passed away.

What a Win!

For Blake Christian to gain a win over a current ROH World Heavyweight Champion, that’s something pretty unexpected and impressive. Christian is one of those guys that is going to go somewhere fast very soon. He went viral not too long ago during a crazy tag match with the Briscoe Brothers, and has become a highlight for me at every show I’ve seen him on. Bandido is one of those guys that can wrestle a good match with anyone, so that chemistry combined made this solid.

2 Cold!

2 Cold Scorpio wrestled at both shows for this duo of events, and the man has not missed a single step from his days as one of the few high-flyers in WWF. At the age of 56, you’d think he’d be slowing down, but that’s just not possible for this guy. Wrestling a guy with such a different style as Jonathan Gresham was definitely an interesting choice for the bookers, but it turned out to be a solid match.

He’s Not Human!

Speaking of guys that do crazy stuff at an age when most athletes hang it up – PCO was at it again at this show! This is the match that AJ Gray won the GCW Extreme Championship, and what a hard fought win it was. PCO is crazy and puts his body through the ringer in every match, doing dives and other spots most wrestlers half his age would refuse.

Guess What…Another One!

Alright! I might as well rename this article “old guys that still got it, because Ricky Morton is 65 years old, and still out there wrestling at a similar level as to what he was doing in the past. The moment that Rock N’ Roll Express won the tag belts in NWA a few years ago, I was blown away by how he good he was at his age. I find it hilarious that Morton is now the current ECW Television Champion, after pinning Matt Cardona here, a title he had for one day after defeating Rhino at Most Notorious.

It’s Kylie!

Kylie Rae is one of those wrestlers I love to see, and am always sad when she has to take breaks at various times. Without going into why that happens, I will just say that I was happy to se eher here, and her smile brightens many a wrestling fan’s heart. Allie Katch, however, proved too much for her on her final leg of the journey to the Hammerstein Ballroom to wrestle a match she considers a dream match. Hope to see Kylie more often on here, and glad to see Allie looking like the badass she is. It was interesting we got to see somewhat of a heel turn for “Smiley Kylie”, makes me wonder if this will go to other companies?

Conclusion:

Hat’s off to GCW for yet another solid show. I have to give them credit for being the only wrestling federation, other than AEW, to use legends in a great way – putting over younger talent, and giving them the experience they may never have had otherwise. GCW has, without a doubt, one of the most diverse wrestler rosters in all of professional wrestlers considering the styles, backgrounds, and ages for all involved. The highlight for me was seeing guys like Ricky Morton have a banger of a match in 2022, and Allie Katch, who is always my favorite on here. If you like GCW, stay tuned for more, I have far more to watch!
